Meet the HeliSmart Team
The team at Helismart are led by seasoned experts who have extensive industry experience and know exactly what it takes to supply top quality services. Our primary focus is scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, rebuilds, overhauls and repairs. We aim to provide the quickest turnaround time possible while always taking into account all safety aspects.
Our specialty lay with the Robinson product and Helismart are also CASA approved to carry out light turbine maintenance.
Management Team

Barry Ballantyne
Helismart Director LAME/Chief Engineer
Born in Zimbabwe and later moving to Australia, Barry first embarked on his aviation career at Aeropower in Redcliffe over 13 years ago. After completing his apprenticeship, Barry went on to work on a wide range of helicopters in a diverse set of locations in both Australia and overseas. He came to Helismart as a well-seasoned professional and soon took on the role of operations management before moving up the ranks to Chief Engineer/Director. Barry controls the day-to-day schedule of the company and manages the team on the floor to ensure clients are seen to as quickly as possible. He is driven to improve safety and professionalism within aircraft maintenance and is eager to pass on the knowledge he has to up and coming engineers.

Ben Smart
HELISMART DIRECTOR AND PILOT
With 35 years’ experience in the aviation industry as a pilot, Ben brings both flying and business experience to the Helismart partnership. Ben spent 5 years as a helicopter mustering pilot for Cloncurry Mustering in his younger years before making the change over into fixed wing aerial agricultural aircraft in 2000. He now also owns and runs a successful aerial agricultural business, Smart Air Services. Ben has always had a passion for helicopters and knows first-hand the importance of limiting down time while ensuring your maintenance is done to the highest safety and engineering standards.
